March…In like a Lion!

PiggieI remember when I was growing up that March was always kind of a big deal. In grade school we always had some kind of an art project based on whether or not March came in like a Lion or a Lamb. The old tale was that if it came in like a lion than it would go out like a lamb (or visa versa) and you could pretty much guarantee that. Well….there are no guarantees in Montana when it comes to spring weather, but that shouldn’t stop you from coming! This past weekend was a perfect example of that. High of 52 on Saturday and freezing cold on Sunday. That did not stop my good buddy Rick Marcum from the Grizzly Hackle fly shop and friend of his from hitting the river and man oh man were they ever rewarded for their toughness! They had spotted this big brown trout a couple weeks prior feeding on small children (not really but it wouldn’t surprise me either!). For reasons unknown they were unable to hook up on that day, but decided to pay him another visit this weekend. I love seeing people rewarded for their hard work, don’t you?

A real beauty for sure. One even my New Zealand mates would even be proud of and it was caught right here in Western Montana. Thanks for the photo, Rick. Your buddy is quite the Lion tamer.
